It’s always hard to leave your dogs at home when you go away on holiday. You might find yourself saying, “Ooh, the dogs would love this walk, there’s a great swim spot for them too”. Well, what if we told you, you could enjoy both - a little getaway in a cosy pod and time with your dogs too. At Lahtle Wood, we are lucky to be situated between the North York Moors and the East Coast, a fantastic spot for great walks with beautiful scenery and most importantly, plenty of amazing dog-friendly sandy beaches you can enjoy all year around all within an hour’s drive.
Fraisthorpe and Hunmanby Beach
Want a long, wide sandy beach with oodles of space to let your dogs run freely without the worry of bumping into other beach goers, have a lengthy walk and a refreshing swim in the North Sea. Then Hunmanby Gap and Fraisthorpe beach are perfect for you. They accept dogs and horses (only on Fraisthorpe) all year round. You can be on the beach in under half an hour from Lahtle Wood and under 40 mins for Fraisthorpe. Hunmanby beach is a family favourite of ours for glorious beach walks all year round, with stunning views of Flamborough’s cliffs and Filey – Wuzzle and Ziggy would also approve, but it is also one of our favourite beaches to swim in and especially for our traditional Boxing Day sea swim! Feel like enjoying it for longer, try the 4-mile round trip. Walk all the way to Filey, have some well-earned fish & chips and an ice cream, then make the trek back along the sand to Hunmanby.
Flamborough Head
Feeling adventurous, head to Flamborough for lovely little beaches towered by limestone cliffs. Time it right at Flamborough Head for low tide, then you can walk in and out of the caves. Arrive at high tide, well, don’t worry, bring a paddleboard, pop your four-legged friends on too and discover the area from a completely different perspective, you might even find some seals tagging along too. Danes Dyke and South landing are great beaches on the right of Flamborough to discover all year round for blustery walks or a chill beach day in the sun.
Rusnwick Bay
Meander through the tiny cobble alleys in the beautiful coastal village, Runswick Bay, then have a fabulous long walk along the whole bay and even be on the lookout for jet in the rocks at the far end of the bay. Drive a little further up the coastline, and you’ll find the small harbour town, Staithes, meander along the little beach and harbour while enjoying award-winning fish and chips!
Robins Hoods Bay
Robin Hoods Bay, like Runswick and Staithes, is a lovely, picturesque old fishing village on the coast of the North York Moors. Great for budding photographers and fossil fans. Take a stroll through the village and stumble upon unique trinket-like shops, or let your furry friends loose on the beach under the dramatic craggy cliffs’ scenery.
